Our Story

Many have asked how we met. Well in short, we met online. After about a year of e-mails, chatting, and posting on our favorite forums (be it techie or otaku), we finally had a chance to meet in person. Btw, a little tid-bit. We played “guess-my-name” when we first started e-mailing. On April 19, 2007 he finally got it!! Haha! Anyways, April 28, 2007 was our first official “date” because he had a job interview here in Honolulu!! Here was our schedule:

  • 11:00AM — Meet at Ala Moana in front of the Starbucks outside of Macy*s
  • 11:30AM — Lunch at California Pizza Kitchen upstairs
  • 1:00PM — Bishop Museum
  • 4:30PM — Leave Bishop Museum
  • 5:00PM — Dinner at The Hawaiian Hut
  • 7:00PM — Drop off John at Ala Moana

And me, being as clumsy as I was, used a new mascara brand before trying it out. My eyes went crazy red, and they were watering by the time the Hawaiian Hut show ended. I wanted to spend a bit more time with him before he left, but he was concerned about me and told me to take are of my eyes first. Poor John was worried!! That made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Soon after, we realized we’ve stepped over the friendship line, hehe. Because he was still on the mainland, our dates were “dinner via webcam”. It’s pretty cute now that you think about it. A bit later, I received news from John that he got a job in Hawaii…. unfortunately, not on Oahu. He was relocated to Maui!! Now here’s the part where everyone goes, “Awwww.” We used to hop on a plane and visit each other. One week he’ll visit me, then the next week I’d visit him. And then, he told me something that made me fall on off my chair — he applied for a job in Honolulu, and got it!! So on my last visit to Maui, I helped him pack the rest of his belongings, clean the apartment, drive to the Superferry, and took the late night sail to Honolulu.

A little over a year and a half later, we’re on our way to becoming {f+j}.

Thank you for reading our story, and we hope to have many, many more stories to share with all of you.
